On the reverse of the present work is a study for the painting La Ganza (1926), now in the collection of the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren, Belgium. Capturing the artists impressions from the 1925 Croisire noire expedition, the study depicts three Banda men wearing traditional ceremonial headdresses used during the initiation ritual known as Ganza.
